During this academic year 2019-2020, Year 10 students at The Magna Carta School have been presented with the opportunity to take part in a week of work experience.
This is formally being offered to students only during the week of Monday 13th – Friday 17th July 2020.
Requests for work experience placements outside of these dates will be unauthorised.
We believe that the opportunity to take part in work experience allows an excellent insight into possible career paths and supports student’s thinking about college, apprenticeship and other pathways leading to their chosen career path. Additionally, it is envisioned that students would further develop their skills in communication, team work, time management and many others during this time.
With your assistance, students are required to find suitable work experience placements for themselves. Students should consider carefully the type of work they wish to undertake on their placements. These may be local or, if necessary, further afield. We strongly recommend that students start contacting potential employers as soon as possible as most organisations only take one work experience student at a time, usually on a first come, first served basis. In order to support students with approaching employers please utilise the letter we have developed, which addressed to employers that we hope will provide them with some key information and direct them to a government website regarding many FAQs asked by employers. Please also be aware that some employers may also have a particular application process that they require in order for students to take part in this type of opportunity with them.
When submitting a request the following documentation will need to be provided as a minimum, however further documentation/information may be requested:
- Work Experience Self-Placement Form completed by the student, parent/carer and employer
- Completed medical information document (please note this will be shared with the employer)
- A copy of the employers liability insurance (public liability alone will not suffice)
The above documentation can be submitted (please submit all together) in the following two ways:
- electronically to email@example.com or
- a sealed envelope clearly labelled “Work Experience & your child’s name” handed into reception at the front of school
All placement requests must be submitted by Monday 6th January 2020. Please note that failure to meet this deadline may mean that the placement cannot be authorised due to insufficient time for us to confirm the placement with the employer.
Upon receiving your documentation we will be in contact with you to authorise the work experience placement submitted and/or in some circumstances we may request further information in order to provide the authorisation.
If you have any further questions / concerns please get into contact. A dedicated email address firstname.lastname@example.org has been set up to support you in asking any questions you may have.
