Just stop and look around you, take a moment to breathe and ask why you can and why you do! Are you awake to the world you live in and the person you are? What is the route to a deeper understanding of the Universe you are a part of and your place in it?

In Science, you can explore your world, explore your Universe and find yourself. Science is the process of observing and questioning the world around us often using experimentation to collect evidence. Science comes from the Latin word ‘Scientia’ the translation of which is ‘knowledge’.

At TMCS we follow a disciplined set of steps called ‘The Scientific Method’ to gain new knowledge and further develop our understanding. If you can ask a question, propose a possible solution to the question (a hypothesis), test the hypothesis through a series of experiments, examine the results of the experiments to see if the hypothesis is supported or not supported and have the desire to propose and investigate new questions then you are a Scientist!

At TMCS we study the three core Sciences (Biology, Chemistry & Physics) in either AQA combined Science (a double GCSE award) or in AQA single Science (a triple GCSE award).

Biology, from the Greek ‘bios’ meaning life and ‘…ology’ from the Greek root ‘logy’ meaning ‘study of’. It transcends anatomy, behaviour, origin and distribution and bonds us all.

Chemistry is the study of the composition, structure, properties and change of matter. Everything you touch, taste or see is a chemical of some kind. Studying Chemistry enables you to understand the environment around you. It helps make sense of the world.

Physics is one of the oldest academic disciplines and involves the study of matter and its motion through space and time, along with related concepts such as energy and force. Physics brings us closer to an understanding of our Universe.

In Science, our aims are simple: to foster and encourage enthusiasm, enquiry, independence and critical thinking that leads to a deeper understanding of the world around us.
