The Magna Carta School prides itself on maintaining a culture of safeguarding.  Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

Safeguarding means:

  • protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
  • preventing harm to children’s health or development
  • ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
  • taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.

Child protection is part of the safeguarding process. It focuses on protecting individual children identified as suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. This includes child protection procedures which detail how to respond to concerns about a child. Please click here for the Safeguarding and Inclusion Policy.  This includes child protection procedures which follow directives and guidance from Surrey County Council on how to respond to concerns about a child.

While safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility TMCS has four dedicated members of The Safeguarding Team:

Mrs Rebecca Atkinson – Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

Mr James Thorpe – Safeguarding Team

Mrs Carol Camburn – Safeguarding Team

Mrs Loriane Gillett – Safeguarding

Mrs Jeanette Schofield – Safeguarding Team

You can reach the safeguarding team by email using if you need to log an expression of concern for a child in our care or call the main school number 01784 454320 and ask to talk to a member of the team.

The associated pages of the safeguarding section of our website offer advice and guidance to parents about the issues that effect children and there successful development.
