This was an excellent trip which did everything expected of it. It helped having such a good group of students who were at all times, mature, responsible and able to demonstrate a keen sense of humour. Complimentary comments regarding the ‘delightful, well mannered, mature students’ were passed to us by the airline staff, other passengers, the hotel staff and the tour rep.
Students were accommodated in bedrooms sleeping three, all with en-suit and daily maid service. Most meals were taken in the hotel restaurant with a wide range of foods for all tastes at both breakfast and evening meal. A packed lunch was provided each day.
The day in Venice was a real treat despite the heat and thousands of other tourists. Students were able to wander through the narrow alley ways, watch the gondoliers plying their trade and sample local foods and ice cream. The following day the group spent the day in a local themed water park. It looked to be a bit of a washout as it was raining when we arrived but it soon brightened up and, probably because of the wet start, other visitors had stayed away so we had the place pretty much to ourselves!
The visit to Monte Baldo on Wednesday, taking the 360° rotating cable car to the top, provided spectacular views over the mountains and we all wished we could have spent more time exploring the mountain tracks. This was followed by a boat trip on the lake to Sirmione, a pretty lakeside village with history going back to Roman times due to the hot springs that emerge there.
The final day was shopping, a relaxing day in Lazise on the lake shore before the party returned to Verona airport for the flight home. A huge vote of thanks must go to the staff who ran this trip and to the students who made their job so easy!
