Mental Health and Wellbeing at TMCS- an Ambassador viewpoint.
Around Easter time last academic year, we applied to become Wellbeing Ambassadors after an assembly appealing for new volunteers to join the existing team. We are led and trained by Nicola Lainsbury who is the school’s student support coordinator. We are currently in the process of being trained in the correct way to support and guide peers. We are also being trained about how, sometimes, we don’t need to do anything; we just need to be there to listen. We can help students with anything from friendship fallouts to problems at home and we will deal with it confidentially so students can have full confidence in us.
This year it has been decided by us, as the new ambassadors, that we will have an increased presence in the Year 7 quad, as well as in the school canteen and the Club Chill room. We believe that starting secondary school can be very tough and having the support from students in higher years will help them settle in more easily.
We hope that we will continue to be able to make a difference around school and help any student who needs us, not just Year 7s.
