Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme – Centre Manager: Gary Thompson-Bowers
It is a proven fact that students who get involved in extra-curricular activities tend to get better outcomes. We recognise the significant impact that learning beyond the classroom has on students’ social and academic development.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a personal and progressive development programme for 14-25 year olds.
The Award requires young people to engage and progress in 4 distinct areas:
- Volunteering – Inspiring young people to make a difference within their communities in an area they are passionate about
- Physical – Encouraging young people to achieve greater physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle through participation and improvement in a physical activity of their choice
- Skill – Engendering confidence in young people to fully engage in a personal interest that develops practical and useful skills
- Expedition – Helping develop resilience, initiative and a spirit of adventure and discovery in young people as they plan, train and undertake an adventurous expedition as part of a team
