Dear Parent / Carer,
The DfE has sent an update to its advice about the ‘calculated grades’, which is the name given to the grades they will be awarding in 2020, and which will be “formal grades, with the same status as grades awarded in any other year”.
These will be based on a range of information – they will not be using predicted grades or entrance exam results alone, however they will be collecting a range of ‘pieces of evidence’ from schools and will use these alongside ‘other factors’ such as KS2 data. We have no further information at this point.
If a student feels their calculated grade is unfair, “they will have the opportunity to sit an exam, as soon as is reasonably possible after schools and colleges open again. They will also have the option to sit their exams in summer 2021.”.
Details are still being finalised and this is a very complex process; we will not know any more for the time being, either about the precise nature of the information they will want us to provide or about where/when the exams will be.
Students should continue to complete work so that they maintain their focus: teachers will be providing work via SIMS App and the shared student drive. For D&T practicals or Art workbooks, we will let students know when and how to deliver these to school.
